By using the 800 Dosino and the 849 Level Control as the only additional devices, Metrohm`s intelligent ion chromatography (IC) systems – the 850 Professional IC and the Compact IC family – can be easily extended to perform any unattended inline eluent preparation. Fully controlled by MagIC NetTM, the 849 Level Control monitors the eluent level while the Dosino performs all dosing and liquid handling tasks. The Dosino automatically dilutes a concentrate with ultrapure water and subsequently transfers it to the eluent bottle. With a dilution factor of 20, a two-liter bottle of concentrated eluent achieves an unattended running time of one month.

The cooperation between Metrohm and Mitsubishi opens up new possibilities in analysis. Solids and highly viscous samples can now be analyzed fully automatically, whereas in the past − e.g. with the oxygen bomb − a good deal of manual work was required. The advantages of the equipment combination described here include the fully automated simultaneous determination of halogens and sulfur. This combination works very precisely and with optimized timing, allowing a high sample throughput.
