Routine process analysis – Compact analysis system for process environments |
| In recent years analytical measuring has been transferred more and more from the laboratory to the plant. This places high demands on the analytical systems. They must be robust in order to function in the harsh process environment and optimally adapted to the particular process; they must also have interfaces for rapid internal and external communication via Ethernet, input/output lines, LIMS and databases. |

The ProcessLab I/O controller |
To enable a seamless integration into the process environment the ProcessLab atline analyzer includes a so-called I/O controller. Equipped with functional terminals it allows you to connect a large variety of equipment and offers various communication possibilities. It is the heart of the ProcessLab process integration and thanks to its high flexibility it can be adapted to all modern process plant surroundings.
The functionality is completely integrated into the tiamo for ProcessLab software from where all devices of a system are controlled. |

Peristaltic pumps for liquid handling |
Peristaltic pumps are displacement pumps. They can be used for many different tasks. Any medium passing it does not contact the mechanical parts of the pump. Media containing solids can be transferred as well as aggressive chemicals. The main part consists of a tubing and a rotor which compresses the flexible tubing. The circular movement of the rollers forces the liquid to flow forward and through the tubing. |

Liquid handling with the solenoid valve module |
The solenoid valve module (3/2 valve) can be used for many different tasks. Mainly it is used to switch between different flow directions. For example the distribution of only one reagent to two different titration cells. It can be used as well as a kind of unidirectional restrictor valve. If needed it is opened and liquid can flow through. If closed the back-flow is interrupted and a proper separation is achieved. The solenoid valve module is an optional part for ProcessLab. The whole module block has sufficient space for four valves. The valve module comes with already one valve preinstalled. If needed additional valves can be added. |

How to setup ProcessLab for remote controlling via a local corporate Ethernet (TCP/IP based) |
ProcessLab comes in a robust steel case which normally is placed in a production environment. ProcessLab is easy to operate for semi-skilled workers but as any analytical equipment it needs some maintenance. Maintenance or changes can be done directly at the system. Remote access to ProcessLab facilitates surveillance, changes can be done directly from any Windows office PC. It`s easy to have a look on your running methods and there`s no more time loss due to long walking distances. In this instruction the well-known “Windows remote desktop” is used to install such a connection. It is easy to operate and needs no additional software. And it is free of charge! Be aware that advanced technical software and hardware knowledge is necessary to perform this installation. |

Comparison of different sampling systems for ProcessLab |
Every analytical system contains techniques and devices for integrating and performing different tasks such as analyses, calculations, transferring of liquids, data processing, etc. Reproducible sample metering is an often underestimated task that has a direct effect on the accuracy of the result. Appropriate equipment is therefore of the utmost importance. There are three different sampling systems available for ProcessLab. In this Application Bulletin you will find a detailed description of the various systems, their use and typical areas of application. This bulletin also includes a comparison of the sampling systems and some practical results obtained with the various approaches. |

Metrohm has combined the best aspects of laboratory and online systems to create the 875 ProcessLab – a fully customized, automated atline system for process monitoring. While process-integrated online systems are used for high analysis frequencies, atline analysis systems are applied to long analysis cycles or wherever various parameters are to be measured at different measuring points. ProcessLab has a compact design that allows for close positioning to the actual process and thus yields faster and more reproducible results. The modular design of ProcessLab gives complete flexibility allowing the configuration of application-specific systems. This flexibility also makes it possible to extend or reconfigure a system in view of future analytical testing needs. With its ability to be configured for a wide scope of applications in various industries, ProcessLab is a perfect system for the production floor, laboratory or anywhere in between. The electronic components are hermetically separated from the wet-part modules and protected against dust and splashing liquids in harsh plant environments. The reliable industrial PC and PLC-driven I/O Controller make for extensive control and communication possibilities using standard communication protocols. Result outputs can be provided as a direct link to the process control center via analog/digital signals or can be delivered via local network to a plant engineer or laboratory manager. Effective monitoring of real-time results can help tighten specifications, detect problems early and avoid wasting money on out-of-spec products. ProcessLab is easy to use, robust and provides fast, reliable results for safe process control. |
