The Star-Ion™ A300 IC anion column's separating properties are based on the use of a styrene-divinylbenzene resin. As with all columns of this type, the separation between the «water dip» and fluoride is not as sharp as with acrylate-based columns. Styrene-divinylbenzene resin has a lower separating performance in the fluoride region. This column nevertheless impresses with its extremely short analysis times.
Standard anions can be determined in less than 8 minutes. In addition this column can be used to determine fluoride in the ppm range in the presence of a very large excess of lactate (Application Note S-37).
The system peak as well as high carbonate concentration interfere with the chloride peak. Here the use of the 853 «MCS» – Metrohm CO2 Suppressor is recommended.
