The Metrosep Dual 4 columns contain an entirely novel carrier material, namely a functionalized monolith based on silica. This monolith allows flow rates of up to 5 mL/min. Even at such high flow rates the column's counter-pressure remains small. Compared to conventional materials, the monolith with its structure made up of macro- and mesopores has a much larger surface area. This contributes to the high capacity at very low dead volume.
The Metrosep Dual 4 – 100 column is the separation column of choice for a multiplicity of applications. All standard anions are separated in less than nine minutes. The high capacity minimizes the effect of matrix influences. It allows the determination of 0.5 ppb perchlorate in the presence of a total of 3 g/L of chloride, carbonate and sulfate. Therefore the Dual 4 – 100 is used in the determination of perchlorate according to EPA standard 314.
The column can be used with and without chemical suppression. With the standard eluent containing p-cyanophenol the connection of the RP Trap column (6.1014.100) between the pulsation absorber and the injection valve is recommended.
